Bhai Jasbir Singh Ji Khalsa(Khannewale),the charismaticGursikh,Gurmukh, Bharamgiani,spiritualist, philosopher,philanthropist, preacher, kirtani and founder of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Charitable Eye Hospital, who passed away on October 14 2006, was posthumously awarded the title of “Panth Rattan” (Jewel of the Panth) on 22nd October 2006.
During his lifetime, Bhai Sahib stood tall for his selfless service to all of humanity, and his dedication and commitment to the Sikh Panth. He spent his entire life preaching the true concepts and philosophy of the Shabad Guru. He was a beacon of hope and inspiration to tens of thousands of Sikhs around the world.
The award of “Panth Rattan” was announced by Jathedar Avtar Singh of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee after Bhai Sahib's bhog ceremony and reported in various newspapers in India and abroad. Bhai Sahib is the first preacher in Sikh history to be officially conferred with the honour of "Panth Rattan."
The award was formally presented at Sri Akal Takth Sahib on August 4th 2007. It was presented to Daljit Kaur, widow of Bhai Jasbir Singh, by Jathedar, Akal Takht, Joginder Singh Vedanti, Balwant Singh Nandgarh, Jathedar, Takht Damdama Sahib, Giani Tarlochan Singh, Takht Kesgarh Sahib, and Avtar Singh, President of the SGPC at Akal Takht. She was given a silver plate, a Sri Sahib, a siropa as well as a cheque for Rs 5 lakh.
